An average audience of 875,300 tuned into RTÉ’s TV coverage of Sunday’s All Ireland Final, making it the most watched programme on Irish television so far this year.
The audience peaked at 1.08 million as Dublin beat Kerry in a sold out, and washed out final at Croke Park.
The average figure is 135,000 ahead of the All Ireland Hurling Final in third place and 120,000 ahead of the Ireland Vs England clash in the RBS 6 Nations in second.  Seven of the ten most watched programmes of the year have been live sport.
The number watching the final was up 6% on last year’s match while average viewing figures for this year’s Football Championship in general have also been up, by 14,700 per match or 4%.
In addition to the TV figures there were just short of 60,000 live streams on the RTÉ player within Ireland, an increase of 35% on the 2014 figure and an indication of changing viewing habits.

The eir sponsored fan pic of fans in Croke Park was released last night and has received over 1,000 tags within the first few hours.  The photograph reveals the heavy rain that fell throughout the game and unfortunately that has made it impossible to identify the thousands of fans who were on Hill 16.
