Ballymun Kickhams GAA Club have taken a step towards a more sustainable planet by becoming stewards of a mini forest on their grounds near Dublin Airport.
The initiative will involve the planting of an initial 2,500 native Irish trees and is part of the 100 Million Trees Project is a nationwide initiative, founded by Richard and David Mulcahy, spearheading environmental initiatives focused on combating climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting sustainable land use over the next decade.
“At the heart of this initiative lies a shared commitment to the environment and the community, as 2,500 native Irish mini forest trees are set to be planted, transforming a designated area in Ballymun into a thriving ecosystem,” said David Mulcahy.
“We are thrilled to partner with the powerful 100 Million Trees Project for this fantastic intervention,” said Dean Rock, eight-time All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winner and member of the club.
“By combining our efforts to plant native Irish trees, we aim to create a lasting impact on the local environment and inspire others to take action for a greener and more sustainable future.”
“The collaboration between the 100 Million Trees Project, Ballymun Kickhams GAA Club, Uniphar, and Procure.ie exemplifies the strength of unity in tackling environmental challenges.
Ireland has the lowest level of tree cover in Europe and this initiative is a great start at rebalancing that.
