Bank of Ireland has announced that it is to sponsor South Dublin GAA ‘super club’ Kilmacud Crokes in a three year deal.
The Bank was previously the sole headline sponsor of the All Ireland Football Championship before stepping aside when the Association moved towards a multi sponsor model.

Rivals AIB took on that Championship partnership this year, adding it to the long term sponsorship of the AIB All Ireland Club Championships.

It would obviously be of interest to Bank of Ireland if Kilmacud were to repeat their national triumphs of 1995 and 2009 but the deal will work well in terms of profile among opinion formers, even if it’s just on the sidelines in Stillorgan.
Every GAA club will have a number of influential people getting involved in setting up pitches on a Saturday morning but Kilmacud could be argued to punch above its weight.
Malachy Logan, the Sports Editor of the Irish Times is a member, as are Lisa Clancy and Diarmaid Murphy among the top players in Croke Park.
Declan O’Rourke, General Manager of Dublin sponsors AIG is another who may now be seen sporting Bank of Ireland livery as he supports his club.
We are well used to seeing match ups and tactical moves among players on the field of play. The fact is that the same kind of planning and thinking is now going in to tactical sponsorship beyond the white lines.
