Defender has officially been announced as the Principal Partner of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, further cementing its long-standing relationship with rugby and commitment to empowering women and girls through sport.
The landmark tournament will take place from August 22 to September 27, 2025, across eight cities in England. It will kick off with an exciting opener between England and the USA at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light.
Ireland’s opening game will be that same weekend against Japan in Northampton.
Building on 25 years of Land Rover’s association with rugby, this new chapter will see Defender bring its “Embrace the Impossible” ethos to life by spotlighting the power, resilience, and determination of women and girls in the sport.
At the heart of this campaign is Defender Trailblazers—a platform launched in 2023 that celebrates individuals embodying the indomitable spirit of women’s rugby.
As part of the partnership, Defender will roll out its Mascot Programme, recruiting 64 young players—both boys and girls—from across rugby nations including England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, and New Zealand.
These mascots will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk out with players during the tournament, helping inspire the next generation of rugby talent.
In the UK, mascots will be selected through Defender retailers as a family reward for customers, reinforcing the brand’s connection with community and grassroots development.
“With Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 taking place on our home soil, it feels especially fitting to be championing our Embrace the Impossible ethos through the endeavours of our Trailblazers, Mascots, and the competitors themselves as they embark on the toughest challenge their sport has to offer,” said Mark Cameron, Managing Director of Defender
“Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 is set to be a transformational moment for the game and having a globally respected brand like Defender at the heart of it is a powerful statement,” added Alan Gilpin, World Rugby Chief Executive
