UCD and DCU will go toe to toe in Mayo tonight in the final of the Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup.

The game will be played at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, where once a dome would have covered them from the elements, and which will no doubt again in the future.

UCD last won the title in 2018 and DCU in 2020. The sides met earlier in the competition when UCD had the edge.

The two met once before in the final when UCD again came out on top in 2016. That was one of the record 34 times that they have won the prestigious title, though DCU have done so five times in the last 20 years, three more than their bigger Dublin rivals.

Both sides have Inter County stars to call upon with Dublin’s Lorcan O’Dell and Greg McEneaney linig out for DCU and Mayo’s Sam Callinan facing them across the line.

Through its #FirstClassRivals platform, Electric Ireland has been celebrating the unique alliances that form between county rivals as they come together in pursuit of the higher education Championships they sponsor.

The campaign, has been live across radio, digital audio, social media, digital display and a content partnership with Balls.ie, who will be attending tonight’s final.

They have also been visible on billboards around the country with the images shown above.

Tonight’s game will be shown live on TG4.  The last time DCU won they were in the vanguard of the streaming of Gaelic Games as can be seen in our additional reading.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Having two colleges only kilometres apart in Dublin travelling to Mayo for the final may seem a little out of kilter but the travel and the camaraderie of the College Championships has always been (almost) as important as the winning of them.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

Thrown in on the pitch beside where the Dome stood before Storm Eowyn will be at 19:30 tonight.
