The Winter Paralympic Games continue in Italy this week, with the world’s leading Para winter sports athletes competing across the alpine venues of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
While Ireland does not have athletes competing at the Games, Irish audiences will still be able to follow the action closely with daily coverage on Channel 4, with highlights and live coverage each day on Channel 4, which has built a strong reputation for its presentation of Paralympic sport since first broadcasting the Games in 2012.
The Last Leg airs on Friday evening’s. Well worth watching last Friday’s on playback for a different way of discussing and presenting issues of disability, and war, in an irreverent but compelling dose of humour.
The Games run from until the 15th March in northern Italy, marking the first time since 2006 that Italy has hosted the Winter Paralympics. Events are taking place across venues in Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo and the surrounding alpine region.
More than 600 athletes from around the world are expected to compete across six sports; Para Alpine Skiing, Para Cross-Country Skiing, Para Biathlon, Para Snowboard, Wheelchair Curling and Para Ice Hockey.
Many of the athletes competing are returning Paralympic champions and world title holders, with strong teams from traditional winter sport nations including Canada, the United States, Norway, Germany and China.
The Games offer a chance to follow the world’s best winter Para athletes and experience one of the most inspiring events on the international sporting calendar — even without Irish competitors on the start list this time.
