The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) has announced a major multi-year partnership with Nike, which will see Irish boxers wear the iconic swoosh in competition from this week’s World Championships in Liverpool through to 2028.

The deal, described by the IABA as unprecedented in scale, is significant for the sport in both financial and global recognition terms.

The partnership will make its debut at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, from September 4th to 14th.

The Irish team consists of 17 boxers, coming from 11 different counties, and is split 10/7 between Men and Women.

IABA Chief Executive Gary Stewart said the agreement reflects both the quality of Ireland’s athletes and the association’s new commercial approach.

“This exciting partnership with a true global brand icon really demonstrates the world-class reputation of our athletes,” he said.

“That our Nike partnership has its first outing during our World Boxing Championships is perfect timing. It speaks to our new direction in terms of brand, identity and commercial relationships.”

Nike has an established presence in the sport, including an existing relationship with USA Boxing. The positive ties that exist between the two teams could yet open the door to further initiatives in the run-up to LA.

Eddie Brown, President of Athlete Performance Solutions, said the deal builds on boxing’s heritage and growth potential.

“Opportunities like this do not come around very often. The historic legacy, and the bright future, of Irish boxing makes this an incredibly exciting relationship for Nike Boxing.”

“We are thrilled to outfit these phenomenal athletes with premium performance footwear and apparel as they pursue world and Olympic podiums.”

Athletes have also welcomed the move. World Championship team co-captain Adam Hession said:

“The quality of the kit is unbelievable, and the detail is amazing. I can’t wait to wear the swoosh in the ring.”

His fellow co-captain Aoife O’Rourke highlighted the performance benefits.

“Being comfortable in what you wear and how it looks helps performance massively. Having top-class kit contributes to that – Nike is the best boxing kit in the world.”

Boxing is Ireland’s most successful Olympic sport, with Kellie Harrington twice, Katie Taylor and Michael Carruth our most recent Gold medallists.
