Marc Canham is stepping down as the Chief Football Officer at the FAI.
Since joining the Association a little under three years ago, Canham has played a central role in the sport.
One of his most significant contributions has been spearheading the Football Pathways Plan, a strategic framework designed to strengthen football from the grassroots level to the international stage.
As Canham prepares to return to England with his family, he will remain in his position to oversee a smooth transition.
The FAI confirmed that the recruitment process for his successor is now underway, with an interim plan to be announced in the coming weeks.
“After much consideration, I have made the decision to leave the Association and relocate back to England,” he said.
“This has not been easy, but I believe the time is right to explore new personal and professional opportunities for me and my family.”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time living in Ireland and working in Irish football and I am proud of the work we have put in place to support its long-term development.”
He did not have an easy time here with a continuous spotlight on the search for new National team managers being seen by some as the defining emphasis of his tenure.
“While we are sad to see Marc leave, we fully respect his decision,” said FAI President Paul Cooke.
“His leadership in driving the Football Pathways Plan has laid a solid foundation for the future of Irish football. We wish him the very best in his next chapter.”
“Marc and his team have delivered the first whole-game approach for Irish football,” added CEO Dave Courell.
“His contribution has been invaluable, and the Association is committed to carrying that vision forward.”
“Marc leaves behind a strengthened football infrastructure and a capable leadership team ready to continue building on what’s been achieved.,” concluded FAI Chair Tony Keohane.
“We are grateful for his dedication and wish him well in the next phase of his career.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
Marc Canham came with a big reputation based on his work with the FA in England, but perhaps he was never given credit for the work he did in establishing the framework of a functioning pathway for football at all levels. He might find securing a new role at home easier than the FAI in finding his successor.
