Matt McKerrow has joined 2into3’s team working on strategy and governance across the sporting sector.

McKerrow is the outgoing interim CEO of Hockey Ireland, and the former CEO of Cycling Ireland and Triathlon Ireland.

Prior to moving to Ireland, he had a successful career in New Zealand, as the National Partnership Manager at Sport New Zealand and Innovation Manager at High Performance Sport New Zealand.

Matt also has a Professional Certificate in Governance from the Institute of Public Administration at the National University of Ireland, and a Masters of Executive Management of Sports Organisations (MEMOS), Sport and Fitness Administration/Management from the Université de Poitiers.

“I’m delighted to be joining 2into3 as an Associate,” he said, “and I look forward to working with organisations across the sport and not for profit sectors, drawing on my own practical experience and knowledge to assist them in achieving their purpose and strategic objectives for their members and the stakeholders they service.”

Since 2006, 2into3 has worked with over 140 sports organisations of all sizes to build their capacity so that they can have a transformative social impact.

Most recently, they worked with sporting bodies including Sport for Business in delivering 20 “how to” webinars and in person events to an audience of over 1500 persons and directly supporting 60 grant applications for the 2023 Sports Capital round.

The grants team, led by Patricia Keenan, is already working on supporting a number of Large Scale Sporting Infrastructure Applications for the forthcoming round and preparing sports club for the LEADER application process and how they can engage with wider community initiatives.

The fundraising advisory practice, led by Rob Foley has also worked with sporting organisations to develop fundraising strategies and in some cases support their implementation.

The potential for philanthropy to broaden the funding base of sporting bodies is significant and one we have long championed as having a much higher ceiling than is currently the case.

“Strategy and Governance are a key aspect in sport and we are delighted to add capacity for strategy and governance work in sport with the addition of Matt to 2into3 as an Associate,” said CEO Dennis O’Connor.

“Matt has extensive first-hand experience of the strategic, governance and organisational challenges and pressures that organisations in the sports sector face.”
