Yesterday we reported on Minister for Arts, Culture, Communications, Media and Sport Patrick O’Donovan and Minister of State for Sport Charlie McConalogue paying a visit to the Irish Rugby High Performance Centre. That visit was in fact part of a wider visit to Sport Ireland and the Sport Ireland Campus, which is even better for sport.

They got an overview of the Campus master plan and the developments which it is hoped will continue to come to life and also visited the Sport Ireland Institute where athletes including Sarah Lavin (pictured above), Jack Marley and Mary Fitzgerald met with them.

Minister McConalogue was then at the launch of the League of Ireland yesterday just around the corner from Leinster House, doubtless taking a particular interest in the Finn harps representatives that were there.

Having the Ministers so engaged so early in their positions is an important marker of the importance of sport within Government and a positive start to the new Dáil.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

It is important for sport to maintain its strong and growing importance within Irish public life and having the Ministers on site so early in their tenure is a real positive for all sport.
