PWC WGPA Launch

PwC has taken a big step forward in recognition of Women’s sport by becoming the first corporate partner of the Women’s Gaelic Players Association.

The partnership is an extension of PwC’s existing strong commitment to Gaelic games through its relationship with the GAA and Gaelic Players Association and will see the two organisations work together to develop leadership and employment skills among intercounty Ladies Football and Camogie players.

Since launching in January the WGPA have rolled out a range of support services including a member helpline, scholarships and personal development coaching.

With support from PwC, this will be expanded through leadership training and third level education events. The ongoing work will also serve to celebrate female players as role models, not just in sport but also business and education.

“This resonates with our commitment to developing all of our workforce, and enabling them to lead a balanced life,” said PwC Partner and former inter county Camogie and Football star Marie Coady speaking at a panel discussion hosted by Sport for Business founder Rob Hartnett alongside the launch.

“We have seen the quality in terms of commitment, focus and delivery that has come from our employment of senior players in the men’s game including Dublin’s Cian O’Sullivan who was at his desk at 8am this morning having qualified for a Leinster Final only 14 hours earlier.”

“We have a global commitment to excellence and equality so it was a natural fit to extend our player partnership to the Women’s game.”

Enforcing that commitment to the partnership it was launched by incoming Managing Partner Feargal O’Rourke, still celebrating his native Westmeath’s win in the Leinster Senior Football semi final the previous day.

“Supporting talent development is very much part of our business. Talent, leadership, commitment and supporting people to be the very best they can be is what PwC is all about.”

“These facets are also reflected in sport at the highest levels. We are therefore delighted to partner with the Women’s Gaelic Players Association and in supporting people who excel in their career and in sport.”

“We are delighted to have the support of PwC as we work to establish ourselves as a voice for our members,” added WGPA Chairperson Aoife Lane.

“High performance sport helps to set up good habits for life, which places top ladies footballers and camogie players as ideal role models in Irish society.”

“Our new ‘Behind the Player’ campaign aims to show players as athletes and individuals to help the sporting public to connect with them, and also places the WGPA as supporters of players as they work to be their best on and off the field.”

PwC was also celebrating with news that a prominent global survey had placed it as the world’s second most attractive employer for business students, behind only Google.

The Universum World’s Most Attractive Employer ranking is an annual global survey of business and engineering students from the world’s top academic institutions in the 12 largest economies by GDP.

This year’s results were announced yesterday in partnership with CNN and other prominent media around the world.
