Congratulations to the team from RTE Sport who retained the Swim Ireland Swim for a Mile Corporate Challenge Trophy at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin last Friday.

The team of Dave Berry, Paul O’Flynn, Teresa McKenna and Ken O’Shea won the challenge for the second year in a row in 18 minutes and 21 seconds. Titan Experience claimed second place in 18.38 with Independent News and Media in third swimming 20.58.

The Swim for a Mile Corporate Challenge is held during the Irish Open Swimming Championships each year and companies from across the country are invited to enter teams of four who swim the mile between them.

The Championships also saw a transcontinental tussle for the Irish 50-metre Women’s Freestyle record.

Breakthrough star Mona McSharry set a new record of 25.60 in February but Danielle Hill, swimming at the Commonwealth Games for Northern Ireland knocked four-hundredths of a second off that in Australia on Friday morning before McSharry struck back eight hours later landing her fourth gold of the week in a time of 25.54 seconds in her Irish Championship final.
