Ireland’s hosting of the Ryder Cup 2027 will break new ground with the introduction of a landmark match featuring the world’s leading golfers with a disability, as part of the competition’s 100th anniversary celebrations.
The inaugural G4D Ryder Cup will take place from 13–15 September 2027 at Ballyneety Golf Club, marking a significant expansion of the event’s commitment to inclusion and global reach. The match will run in the days leading into the main Ryder Cup, which is being staged at Adare Manor from 13–19 September.
Each team, representing Europe and the United States, will feature both male and female players competing across a mixed format. Day one will see mixed foursomes, followed by mixed fourballs on day two, with the contest concluding in singles matches on the final day. Details on player selection and team captains are expected to be confirmed at a later stage.
Expanding the G4D Movement
The match represents the latest evolution of the European Tour group’s growing commitment to Golf for the Disabled (G4D), building on initiatives such as the G4D Open, delivered in partnership with The R&A since 2023, and the inclusion of G4D events on the DP World Tour schedule.
Richard Atkinson, Chief Ryder Cup Officer at the European Tour group, described the new match as a natural progression.
“After launching the G4D Open with The R&A in 2023, creating a G4D match to support golf’s greatest team contest felt like the logical next step. The G4D Ryder Cup presented by Ei Electronics will add a new dimension to what promises to be a true celebration of golf as the contest reaches its 100-year anniversary.”
Strong Irish Backing
The event will be supported by the Irish Government, with Patrick O’Donovan, Minister for Culture Communications and Sport highlighting its broader significance.
“I am proud that Ireland is playing a leading role in delivering this landmark event. The G4D Ryder Cup is a powerful statement of our commitment to inclusive sport and to ensuring that opportunities at the highest level are open to everyone,” he said.
“This is about more than sport; it is about visibility, opportunity and showing young people across Ireland that there is a place for everyone in sport at every level.”
Charlie McConalogue, Minister of State for Sport, added that the announcement aligns with national policy priorities around accessibility and participation, reinforcing a “Sport for All” ethos.
Commercial Support and Regional Impact
The match will be presented by Ei Electronics, headquartered in Ireland’s Mid-West region. CEO Leo Clancy said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.
“We are proud to help enable the world’s best golfers with a disability to compete for the first time as part of the Ryder Cup’s 100th anniversary celebrations,” he said.
With the addition of the G4D Ryder Cup, the 2027 Ryder Cup is set to broaden its legacy beyond elite competition, positioning Ireland at the forefront of inclusive sport on a global stage.
