Women in Sport Update…
Smashing Records at the Women’s World Cup..
The FIFA Women’s World Cup has created a number of records in digital media that show the global reach of the sport regardless of whether it is played by men or women.
The two that stand out most for us are the fact that their were 9 billion impressions of tweets about the tournament and 28 million views on the FIFA You Tube Channel. This was a new monthly record, beating the 19 million which had been the previous best during June 2014 during the Men’s World Cup Finals.
DCU Adds WGPA Scholarship..
DCU is to offer a full time Business School Masters scholarship to a member of the Women’s Gaelic Players Association for the academic year starting this autumn.
This Scholarship will be funded jointly by DCU Business School and DCU GAA Academy.
“DCU Business School is delighted to support the Women’s GPA by offering a scholarship, in conjunction with the DCU GAA Academy, for a place on one of our full-time Master’s programmes,” said Professor Barbara Flood, Deputy Dean at the Business School.
“We are delighted to announce this partnership with DCU, and specifically with the DCU Business School and DCU GAA Academy,” added Aoife Lane, Chair of the WGPA.

“This is another very clear indication of the commitment of DCU to furthering the opportunities available for elite female athletes in Gaelic games, and adds to the WGPA education support programme that is available to all members.”
“The DCU GAA Academy is delighted to be associated with the WGPA and DCU Business School in supporting this new initiative,” said Michael Kennedy, Director of the DCU GAA Academy
“This scholarship will empower the successful recipient to grow and develop her leadership and professional skills in order to enhance her future career opportunities.”
