The Dublin GAA celebrations have focused on the men’s teams victory over Kerry last Sunday but attention now turns to the Women’s team who go head to head with Cork in the TG4 sponsored and broadcast All Ireland Senior Ladies Football Final on Sunday.
Last week LGFA President Marie Hickey called on players and supporters to set a European record for the number attending an elite Women’s sporting event in 2015.
The target to be reached is 30,710 and advance sales look as though that number is achievable. There are a variety of ticket promotions aimed at bringing along young players to see the heroines of the games they could one day aspire to be.
It is important that women support women’s sport and we were pleased to see irish Rugby captain Niamh Briggs bringing her niece to see the Irish Soccer team in Euro Qualifier action in Tallaght on Monday night.
Briggs herself came from the Gaelic Football arena and her native Waterford will take on Kildare in the Intermediate Final on a triple header at Croke Park.
The first game sees Scotland travel to take on Louth in the Junior final and the main event is a repeat of last year’s thrilling encounter between Dublin and Cork.
The atmosphere promises to be spectacular, the inspiration to future generations will be seen in the eyes of 10,000 children that will be there and remember it forever. Even the weather is playing its part with zero millimetres of rain forecast for Sunday.
