A new Try-Athy race will form part of the schedule for their event on 2nd June. A structured ‘6 Weeks to Try’ initiative was launched this week.
Race entrants will benefit from a free programme that includes ‘boot’ camps in the run up to the Try-Athy race, access to a recommended beginners training programme, five leader mentors for inspiration, an online forum for any advice, and access to equipment experts to help with gear for the day.
Gary Kirwan, who shot to the spotlight on Today FM last year when losing 13 stone ahead of competing the Dublin city Marathon last year will be participating in Triathlon for the first time in this event ahead of his first 7-day ultra run through the Sahara desert next January.
“We are currently recruiting 5 ‘TryAthlete’ mentors who entrants can follow and learn from,” said race organiser Karl McCann speaking to Sport for Business. “Each of these five will be blogging their activities over the next six weeks, inspiring and leading their followers to race day. The race itself will consist of a 400m swim, 15km cycle and 3.8km run.”
