The out-of-pocket costs of a sports injury can be substantial but a new insurance product from AIG is looking to take some of the financial sting away if not the actual pain.
Dublin stars Aisling Maher, James McCarthy, Paddy Smyth and Kate Sullivan were on hand to launch AIG’s new Injury Cash product, aimed at sports people and athletes of all levels to help provide some direct financial support and assistance in the event of a covered injury.
In addition, the offering will provide free access to the new AIG Virtual Care Portal that includes free online GP, medical second opinion and mental health counselling. Free access to the AIG Health Club is also part of the offering.
AIG recently conducted a survey of more than 1,300 participants from clubs across several sports across the island of Ireland. The data revealed that 72 per cent of players had been injured at some stage playing their sport.
Of those injured, 55 per cent admitted that the injury affected their work or college, with 32 per cent of those injured saying that they were left out of pocket due to an injury by at least €500.
The research also revealed that 36 per cent of people participating in sport have seen a medical professional in the last three months in relation to an injury sustained while playing sport, with the most common injuries suffered being muscle injuries, bone fractures and ankle damage.
Dublin footballers James McCarthy and Kate Sullivan, hurler Paddy Smyth and camogie player Aisling Maher launched the new product today, which they hope will be able to help people who have been injured playing sport.
AIG will also roll out its new ‘It Cost Me’ Injury Cash campaign that features video creative featuring ambassadors and Dublin stars James McCarthy, Nicole Owens, Eoin Murchan and retired star Kevin McManamon.
“AIG is deeply rooted in the communities where our customers and colleagues live, and we have a long association with sport and sports clubs all over the country,” said John Clear, Head of Accident and Wealth at AIG Ireland.
Our new product will ensure that those people can continue to play sport in those communities and have some financial support and peace of mind in the event of a covered injury.”
