NFL Coach and Sky Sports Presenter Phoebe Schechter has joined the Aer Lingus College Football Classic as an official ambassador for the 2024 game between Georgia Tech and Florida State University.

“The 2023 Aer Lingus College Football Classic was just incredible, the bands, the cheer, the fireworks, the flyover, you just felt like you were at a College Football game in the States,” she said.

“The way that College Football teams engage with the fans is wonderful.”

“With Phoebe’s background and influence in growing the sport, she’s a perfect fit as an ambassador for our game,” added Brendan Meehan, Commercial Director at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

“We know that Phoebe will do a fantastic job with her new role, and we look forward to having her in attendance at our game this year.”

Schechter made headlines when she joined the Buffalo Bills coaching staff for the 2018-19 season, which made her Britain’s first-ever female NFL Coach.

She did that through the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which is an opportunity for minorities to work with an NFL team.

Working with Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott, and star Quarterback Josh Allen, she has played a large role in paving the way for more female coaches in the NFL. There are currently ten female assistant coaches on NFL rosters, the most there has ever been.

In the past year she has been covering regular NFL league games, NFL international games as well as last season’s Super Bowl for Sky Sports.

Schecter initially became involved with American Football at the age of 22 when she saw an advert on social media for a local American Football team, she went, tried out, and made the team. She has now played for and captained team Great Britain for over 10 years now in both flag and tackle.

She led team Great Britain to a gold medal at the 2023 IFAF European Women’s Flag Football Championship in Limerick, Ireland.

“I had no idea what I was doing at first, but honestly, the people that I met and the community that is around American Football, that’s what has stuck with me the most. I got to be somewhere where I could be completely myself and be with people that supported me. Those people that I met all those years ago are still my really close friends, and I think that says so much about this sport and community.” she said.
