In today’s second of a four-part series, we turn our attention to Facebook, which has shown another rise in activity and engagement compared to 12 months ago.
Wednesday: Facebook
Thursday: Instagram
Friday: TikTok
In the infographics below, we have ranked each organisation across a range of metrics on each network, including the most active, the most engaged with, and the most engaging content, as well as, where possible, engagements per 1,000 followers.
It is important to note that this analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include any analysis or insight on paid or promoted content. When % figures are used (unless otherwise stated), they refer to the previous month’s figures.
April 2026 Highlights on Facebook
Overview
Facebook activity fell by 11% in April, with 5,322 posts generating 555,472 public engagements – a 47% decrease on the previous month.
That still represents another small rise in the total number of engagements from 12 months ago, though, when it was 534,102. The number of posts was also up from 4,427, revealing, as it did last month, that Facebook is having a bit of a moment.
Highlights
The NIFL (752, +5%) topped the Facebook activity charts once again as Gary Haveron won the Gibson Cup with his son.
In second, the League of Ireland (642, -6%) saw an unbelievable effort by Galway’s Stephen Walsh fly into the back of the Dundalk net, and in third, the GAA (452, -7%) highlighted the skills of Clare’s Shane O’Donnell.
Boxing Ireland (154, +126%) highlighted the incomparable Johnny Joyce singing Amhrán na bhFiann ahead of the beginning of the 2026 National Boy/Girl 1 Championship Finals.
Swim Ireland (127, +84%) caught up with Mona McSharry after she broke an Irish and Championship Record.
The FAI (456, -30%) topped the engagement-per-post charts, followed by Ulster Rugby (391, -18%) and Irish Rugby (390, -84%).
This represented a climb from sixth place in the same month last year for the FAI, which had an average engagement per post of 251 then.
Irish Sailing (119, +325%) celebrated as Eve McMahon secured Gold for Ireland at the Trofeo Princess Sofia Regatta in the ILCA 6 class.
Tennis Ireland (23, +130%) announced the return of Professional men’s tennis to Dublin with an ATP Challenger 75 tournament being held at Elm Park Golf and Sports Club in June — the first ATP Challenger event on Irish soil since 2008.
Squash Ireland (2,149) once again topped the average engagements-per-1,000-followers metric. They climbed from second place a year ago on this metric when their number was 1,702. Solid progress in the medium.
The FAI’s #COYGIG Aviva tunnel post was the most-engaged content on Facebook in April, generating close to 8,000 public engagements to date.
