The strength of the field for the 2026 Amgen Irish Open has received another significant boost with the confirmation that Ryder Cup stars Patrick Reed, Robert MacIntyre, Francesco Molinari and Sepp Straka will compete at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg from 10-13 September.
The announcement comes as weekend tickets have officially sold out, underlining the growing demand for what is shaping up to be one of the strongest editions of Ireland’s national open in recent years.
The four latest additions join a world-class line-up already featuring defending champion Rory McIlroy, two-time Major winner and two-time Irish Open champion Jon Rahm, alongside former champions Shane Lowry and Pádraig Harrington.
Also confirmed are European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, Ryder Cup teammates Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Højgaard and Nicolai Højgaard, with Rasmus returning as the reigning Irish Open champion following his victory at Royal County Down in 2024.
Ryder Cup pedigree throughout the field
The latest announcement adds considerable Ryder Cup experience across both sides of the Atlantic.
American Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, arrives at Doonbeg in excellent form, currently leading the Race to Dubai Rankings after an outstanding 2026 season featuring two victories, a runner-up finish and two further top-ten finishes. The three-time Ryder Cup player made his Irish Open debut at The K Club last year.
Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre has become one of Europe’s leading players following Ryder Cup victories in Rome and New York. Now ranked World Number 17, he already boasts victories in the Scottish, Italian and Canadian Opens and will be seeking to add the Irish Open to that growing collection of national titles.
Former Open Champion Francesco Molinari brings both championship pedigree and current Ryder Cup relevance, having recently been appointed as one of Luke Donald’s vice-captains for the 2027 contest. His remarkable unbeaten five-point performance in Europe’s 2018 victory remains one of the competition’s defining individual displays.
Austria’s Sepp Straka, meanwhile, continues to establish himself among the game’s elite after becoming his country’s first PGA Tour winner and subsequently adding three more victories. The four-time PGA Tour winner will make his Irish Open debut after helping Europe to Ryder Cup success in both Rome and New York.
Another commercial success for Irish golf
From a Sport for Business perspective, the confirmation that weekend tickets have sold out more than a month before the tournament is another strong indicator of elite golf’s commercial strength in Ireland.
The combination of McIlroy, Rahm, Lowry and Harrington, now supplemented by four more Ryder Cup stars, creates a field with significant international appeal and reinforces the Irish Open’s position as one of the standout events on the DP World Tour calendar.
As part of the Tour’s prestigious Back 9 series of historic tournaments and national opens, the championship continues to attract one of the strongest fields outside the Major Championships and Rolex Series events.
While Saturday and Sunday admissions are no longer available, tickets remain on sale for the Wednesday Pro-Am and the opening two championship rounds on Thursday and Friday.
With the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at the K Club from the 27th August featuring Charley Hull and Leona Maguire off the European Solheim Cup team, and the Amgen Irish Open continuing to attract sell-out crowds and world-class fields, Ireland’s position as a destination for major golf events continues to strengthen across both the men’s and women’s professional game.
