The Gaelic Players Association held its Annual General Meeting yesterday evening online.
There were 12 motions considered, all of which were passed overwhelmingly with between 96% and 100% support.
These included two taken together that urge the Camogie Congress, called for next week, to allow a choice between skorts and shorts for Camogie players at all levels of the game.
Other motions included a move to collective engagement with the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association as part of the integration process; more straightforward guidelines for players playing on multiple teams in relation to manager demands and workload; a new tax credit or relief for players on their professional earnings outside of their sport; improvements to injury funds and improvements for lower tier hurling competitions.
Leitrim hurler Martin Feeney and Offaly Camogie’s Mairéad Teehan join the GPA’s National Executive Committee. They replace Roscommon’s Naos Connaughton and Kilkenny’s Grace Walsh, who have stepped down.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
The Camogie row was very much to the fore at the AGM, with unanimous approval for choice. It is hard to see Congress going against the players’ clear wishes, particularly with the leadership in support as well, but we will not know for sure until next week.

We will have a review of the Gaelic Players Association Annual report in tomorrow’s Sport for Business.
