Having looked at the numbers for X yesterday, today we turn our attention to Facebook.
Tomorrow, we will highlight the power of collaborations on Instagram, and on Thursday, we will look at the best of the month on TikTok.

It is important to note that this analysis is based on publicly available data. It does not include any analysis or insight on paid or promoted content. When % figures are used (unless otherwise stated), they refer to the previous month’s figures.
We are also looking to engage with each social media manager responsible for the accounts so that we can plan for the next stage in developing this ever-popular monthly look at what is happening. September 2024 Highlights on Facebook
Facebook activity also fell compared to the previous month, down 9% to 3,382 posts in September, and engagements decreased 43% to 589,298. That is also well down on last year, but the comparison is to the opening month of the Rugby World Cup in Paris.
The League of Ireland topped the Facebook activity charts for the second month in a row. Their 507 posts, an 11% decrease from August’s output, included the announcement that attendance in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division rose again and is 20% ahead of the previous year.
The LGFA account in second (273, +4%) bought us some unusual attire from the Sports Direct #G4MO National Festival Day, and in third, Cricket Ireland (189, +22%) celebrated as the Women’s team defeated England in Clontarf.
Gymnastics Ireland (90, +592%) celebrated success at the Northern European Championships, Special Olympics Ireland (32, +191%) hosted an interclub Table Tennis event in Navan, and the Northern Ireland National Team account (92, +130%) celebrated victory against Luxembourg.
Irish Rugby (1,674, +741% topped the average engagement per post charts as the Women’s team kicked off the Union’s 150th Anniversary celebrations with a victory against Australia in Belfast. Cricket Ireland were in second (626, +30%) and Paralympics Ireland (621, -56%) were in third.
With the start of the URC season, we saw Connacht (182, +136%), Leinster (277, +105%) and Ulster (319, +80%) all begin to see an increase in output and engagement across their Facebook channels.
Paralympics Ireland (1,668) topped the average engagements per 1,000 followers metric for the second month in a row.
Cricket Ireland delivered the most engaged with content on Facebook in September as Ross Adair scored a quickfire century against South Africa – the footage has generated over 40,000 public engagements and been played over 1 million times.
