Four standout inter-county players have been honoured with the PwC Player of the Month awards for April, recognising exceptional performances across camogie, football and hurling.
Kerry’s Síofra O’Shea and Offaly’s Mairéad Teehan were named the PwC GPA Women’s Players of the Month for football and camogie respectively, while Cork’s Brian Hayes and Meath’s Mathew Costello were recognised as the PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month in hurling and football.
The awards, sponsored by PwC, acknowledge the top male and female performers in the National Leagues and early rounds of the 2025 All-Ireland Championships.
O’Shea played a leading role in Kerry’s Lidl NFL Division 1 League final win over Armagh, scoring three points in a 4-14 to 0-11 victory. She followed that up with six points in Kerry’s Championship opener against Cork, showcasing her consistency and influence in the Kingdom’s attack.
Teehan was instrumental in Offaly’s Very Camogie League Division 2A success, scoring 2-4 in the final against Derry at Semple Stadium. Her leadership and scoring prowess were key to Offaly’s promotion to Division 1B and an unbeaten league campaign.
On the men’s side, Hayes helped Cork claim their first Allianz Hurling League Division 1 title since 1998, contributing significantly throughout the campaign. He carried that form into the Munster Championship, scoring 2-2 against Clare and adding two points in Cork’s win over Tipperary.
Costello’s performances were central to Meath’s resurgence in the Leinster Senior Football Championship. He starred in wins over Carlow and Offaly, and was pivotal in Meath’s dramatic semi-final victory over Dublin, which ended the Dubs’ long-standing dominance in the province.
Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner at PwC Ireland, praised the players for their exceptional contributions:
“Throughout April, we witnessed outstanding performances across all codes. Congratulations to Síofra, Mairéad, Brian and our colleague Mathew on being named April’s Players of the Month.”
GAA President Jarlath Burns also commended the winners, noting their individual excellence within team settings:
“Well done to all four players. We look forward to more outstanding displays across all four codes between now and the end of the inter-county championship campaigns.”
GPA President Dónal Óg Cusack highlighted the significance of peer recognition in the awards:
“These awards are voted for by their fellow players, which makes them extra special. Congratulations to Brian, Mairéad, Mathew and Síofra.”

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
Players voting for their own is always the sweetest recognition and the four named each month know that they have been named as worthy winners by their peers.
WHAT’S UP NEXT?
The PwC Player of the Month awards will continue to spotlight the talent, commitment and impact of Ireland’s top inter-county stars, though how to pick a single winner from each code in May will be a challenge.
