RSA Insurance Ireland and 123.ie have agreed a new partnership with Sanctuary Runners, the organisation founded in Ireland by Graham Clifford that uses walking, jogging, and running to foster solidarity, friendship, and respect among asylum seekers, migrants, refugees, and local communities across the country.
The collaboration aligns with RSA and 123.ie’s 2025 Climate and Resilience strategy, which focuses on positively impacting communities by driving economic and climate resilience for vulnerable populations.
The organisation has contributed €15,000 towards the Sanctuary Runners.
“The partnership we are launching today goes to the heart of our values at RSA Insurance, 123.ie, and our parent company, Intact,” said Kevin Thompson, CEO of RSA Insurance Ireland.
“Sanctuary Runners provides an opportunity for people arriving in Ireland to integrate into society meaningfully and positively. We are delighted to support their work and help build stronger, more inclusive communities.”
“Partnering with RSA and 123.ie has been an incredible opportunity for Sanctuary Runners,” added Michael Darragh Macauley, CEO.
“We are thrilled to work with an organisation that understands the unifying power of sport and athletics.”
“This collaboration will allow us to expand our mission of bringing communities together through running, jogging, and walking.”
Graham Clifford and Michael Darragh Macauley have been guest speakers at the Annual Sport for Business Sport for Social Good Conference which will again take place in Dublin in October 2025.
The organisation is a nonpolitical, solidarity-through-sport initiative that now boasts 44 groups across 23 counties in Ireland and has ambitious plans for further growth.
In 2024, thousands of people across 75 countries participated in the group’s Global Solidarity Run, showcasing the widespread impact of the movement.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
We have long admired the idea behind the Sanctuary Runners and the execution of its aims. Sport for Business Partner Dublin City Council contributed places at the recent Dublin City Half Marathon, and the joy that the runners bring to the simple act of running is very special.
