The GAA has announced the expansion of a national over-the-counter ticket sales network through 130 SuperValu and Centra stores around the country.
The network was piloted last year with Tickets.ie and will now become Ireland’s largest secure ticket sales network. No ticket fees will apply for any tickets purchased via the new network or online via www.Tickets.ie or www.gaa.ie.
Existing channels through GAA Clubs and County Boards will remain in place but the new network will expand the accessibility of games to the broader community. It will also avoid the ticketing issues which gave rise to problems at Semple Stadium on Sunday by easing the process of ‘time shifting’ the purchase of tickets, even if only to the point of people picking up tickets locally the night before or on the morning of games.
The arrangements enhance the GAA’s existing Championship sponsorship agreements with SuperValu and Centra. All stores involved will sell tickets for any GAA fixture where tickets are available.
“Helping our members and supporters access our tickets with greater ease is and has been a ticketing priority for us for some time,” said GAA Ard Stiuthóir, Páraic Duffy. “This project with both Tickets.ie and Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland has seen this come to fruition.”
Speaking at the launch Des O’ Mahony of Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland said: “This ticket initiative further strengthens our partnership with the GAA,” added Des O’Mahony of Musgrave Retail Partners and underlines our joint commitment to building vibrant local communities.”
