Active Disability Ireland will today be hosting the first ever Xcessible Awards Ceremony at the Johnstown Estate Hotel, Enfield.

This invite-only event will celebrate the fantastic achievements of National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships who have achieved an award on the Xcessible Programme to date.

Designed to support organisations in creating an inclusive culture and increasing opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in physical activity, the Xcessible Programme continues to develop inclusion within the sporting sector.

Eight National Governing Bodies (NGBs) have received an Xcessible Bronze Awards since 2020, 4 of which have also gone on to secure the Silver Award.

These are Athletics Ireland, Badminton Ireland, Basketball Ireland, Canoeing Ireland, Golf Ireland, Gymnastics Ireland, Hockey Ireland and Swim Ireland.

10 Local Sports Partnerships have received an Xcessible Bronze Award since 2020, with Mayo also going on to land the Silver Award. The others are Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Kildare, Laois, Meath, Sligo and Waterford.

There will also be special awards in the five categories relating to the Active Disability Ireland Inclusion Charter, which we will report on Thursday morning.

Oisin Jordan, Sarah Hewitt, Stephanie McSweeney and Donna Bullivant Evans will take part in a panel discussion as part of the Awards and there will also be addresses from Dr Una May, CEO of Sport Ireland, Brenda O’Donnell, CEO of Active Disability Ireland and Senator Nikki Bradley.

Rob Hartnett of this parish will be the Master of Ceremonies for the day, a privilege.
