AIB Facebook 360Dublin and Kerry will play in front of 82,000 fans on Sunday, the same number as turned out at Croke Park for the double header quarter finals earlier this month featuring Mayo, Tyrone, Donegal and the Dubs.

13,000 of these will be packed onto Hill 16 and AIB’s latest video content as part of it’s Club Fuels County campaign gives an immersive experience of what that feels like.

The brand launched the video yesterday with a special viewing on Virtual Reality headsets at Facebook’s headquarters in Dublin’s Silicon Dock.

You can see the video below but even if you don’t have access to a Gear or Occulus Rift headset it is best watched in Facebook where you can guide your perspective better than on this You Tube rendition.

Shot in Ambisonic sound for a wholly immersive experience, the filming took place with Former Dublin and Ballymun Kickhams player Alan Hubbard.

He wore a camera on his head similar in size to a Go Pro but with eight different camera angles shooting simultaneously. The mat you can probably see in the foreground is actually his hair but that disappears in the full 360 version as you tilt to look all around you and feel what the experience is like.

With VR broadcasts now taking place from major sporting events this could be how you might experience sport in years to come.

It doesn’t match up to the actual reality of being there but as a way of stepping out into Old Trafford or Giants Stadium and seeing the game from the perspective of those who are there, it’s better than travelling by planes, trains and automobile.

“In AIB we place our customers at the heart of everything we do and we have taken a similar approach to our GAA sponsorships,” said AIB Group Brands Director Mark Doyle.

“We are always searching for new ways to celebrate and showcase GAA.”

“The introduction of 360 video on Facebook has provided us with another platform to be innovative with our campaigns and to create immersive content, allowing us to bring fans even closer to the action.”
