The event is one of 24 Tata Kids of Steel triathlon events being staged across the UK and Ireland this year, aimed at involving a total of 20,000 children.
All the equipment needed for the introduction to the sport is provided on the day, including bikes and helmets, and children only need to come equipped with swimming and running kit. Every child receives a T-shirt, swim cap, gym sack and medal for participating.
Tata Steel is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers and has supported Triathlon in Britain over the past six years. “Our support has been instrumental in the growth, development and success of triathlon over these past six years,” said Karl-Ulrich Köhler, MD & CEO of Tata Steel in Europe.
“The Tata Kids of Steel events give children the chance to have a go at a mini triathlon in a fun, exciting and safe environment. The events are truly inspirational, with a ‘party in the park atmosphere’. We are delighted to be bringing the series to Lisburn.”
“We are reaching out to young people and new triathletes through a range of events and initiatives,” added Triathlon Ireland CEO Matt McKerrow. “From talent identification days to training programmes aimed at novices we are looking to inspire more people to get involved and to watch our Olympic hopefuls Aileen Morrison and Gavin Noble in London this summer.”
