Three is the main sponsor of the Irish national soccer team and kicks off a €2.5 million marketing campaign around the Euro 2012 Championships today.  ‘Support Works’ is the theme of the campaign which will include seven weeks of TV advertising, outdoor posters, print advertising and a new online campaign through www.3football.ie.
Richard Dunne is writing an exclusive blog for the site which also has a facility for fans to send messages of support to the team.  There will also be games, competitions and new updates though the site will be competing in a crowded space as the Championships draw closer.
Perhaps one of the strongest elements is the Three sponsorship of the Rocky Road to Poland charity song which has already hit top spot in the Irish download charts and looks set to become a ubiquitous theme throughout the Championships and the build up.
Clubs are being involved in the build up through a competition on facebook asking for uploads of how thet intend to ‘Go Green with Pride’.  Six winning clubs will win a supporters night package of entertainment, refreshments and wide screen TV’s worth a total of €10,000.
Soccer received a massive boost yesterday with what Sports Illustrated described on Twitter as ‘the most exciting finish to any sports season, ever’.
Manchester City ended a 44 year drought by taking the Barclays Premier League title but needed two injury time goals against ten man QPR who themselves ensured premier League survival through Irish international Jonathan Walters’ brace of goals against Bolton.
City were at one stage eight points behind rivals Man United, that is two points more than the gap which Sligo Rovers opened up over Shamrock Rovers with their victory in the Airtricity Premier League table topping clash on Saturday.
It was breathless entertainment, heart stopping at times and sets the scene well for the summer ahead.
